WR 150: Under Construction: Infrastructure and Culture
“Being an engineer I consider writing to be one of my weaknesses, but finding a course that focused on infrastructure and culture […] really helped make the best out of the experience. Ethan is the coolest and most helpful professor I have had both for writing and in BU in general; the feedback he provided for all our papers and drafts was super helpful and honest.”
“The freedom we had in our research papers definitely allowed me to write a paper I was genuinely passionate about. Easily one of the best writing courses I've taken.”
“Overall, the course was excellent in stimulating interest in the subject of infrastructure. The readings or assignments before each class gave a good insight on what was to come, and the classes themselves were open to many interesting insights and discussions. The final assignments were a good culmination of the work we learned, while also providing a different twist on the things we learned before. It allowed for just enough wiggle room for new ideas while keeping the overall skeleton of our learning intact.”

WR 150: "Who Tells Your Story": Historical Narrative and Popular Culture in Hamilton
“His passion for the material invokes his students’ passion which gives him the ability to effectively lead the classroom. There is never a dull class. Rather than talking at us, he encourages his students to talk to each other, spurring debates and intelligent conversations in the classroom. […] He has an unconventional teaching style of ‘learning with us’ and giving us the opportunity to research what we love through different projects, while also connecting it to the objectives and themes of the class.”
“Ethan is one of the most engaging teachers I've ever had. […] He does a very good job of connecting the interesting parts of music and Hamilton into writing conventions and scholarly conversations. Most importantly, Ethan has pushed me as a writer.”

WR100: The Resistance Mix-Tape: Music and Politics
“Amazing feedback on rough drafts and final papers that stimulated growth in my personal writing. In class lessons and practice (such as close reading debates of lyrics and writing lessons) helped tremendously in the development of my writing as well.”
“Ethan King is exceptional at stimulating conversation in class. He found a way to grab our attention with modern music and then showed us how older, more historical music can be just as interesting. Every conversation in class led to greater understanding of both the interesting concepts we were covering and skills involved in having an academic conversation. I could see and hear the passion he had for each topic we covered, and that got me excited to participate. He also did a very good job of including a wide range of music to not only demonstrate the expansive use of politics in numerous genres of music, but to also appeal to as many different people and tastes as he could.”
“Ethan always kept the class interesting and engaging. The feedback left on my papers was incredibly helpful and pushed my writing to be better. He was easy to talk to and I felt comfortable meeting with him outside of class for help on papers. And was easily accessible via email.”
